Style Me Pretty: A Secret Loft Garden

Ahhh!! It’s been sooo difficult to contain my excitement about our photoshoot that is featured today on Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book Blog!

Back in the winter, I had lunch with Grace from Vale of Enna Floral Design and photographer Kenny Nakai, who had recently moved into their fabulous new studio space in Lincoln Park. Uhm, hello-what-a-perfect-place-for-a-photoshoot!! There are a ton of pics in the SMP feature and even more eye-candy in the Gallery, but here’s one that’s not in there:

Grace and I, tired and happy after hours of tweaking and perfecting :)

Here is probably one of my favorite shots. I am OBSESSED with the hanging mirrored table number!

I can’t even explain how tricky these bubble shots were to pull off!! But I saw it in my head and was determined to bring it to life. It involved me standing on a tall chair, ungracefully huffing and puffing, while Grace fanned the bubbles in the right direction, all while Kenny snapped a million shots! But totally worth it :)

Another one of my favorite details were the mirrored escort cards in the glass globe holders with a dainty ranunculous bud.

What do you think, friends?!

Chicago Botanic Garden Rainy Day Engagement Shoot

Wow wow wow, are you guys in for some unbelievably gorgeous EYE CANDY today!! Photographer Erica Rose just sent me the link to our fabulous couple, Angela & Phil, who are getting married at the Eaglewood Resort in 2 weeks, and I couldn’t be more smitten with their engagement shoot. They’d been stalling on the shoot, waiting for good weather… and finally at two weeks out, they couldn’t wait anymore. The storm clouds were imminent, but they carried on anyways, and the resulting pictures are so romantic and unlike any I’ve seen before! The Chicago Botanic Garden holds special meaning for them and was the perfect backdrop for this rainy day photo session. This is just a snippet of the full set… definitely check out Erica’s blog for MORE pictures!

Here comes the rain!! Angela and Phil had no problem kicking off their shoes and having a blast!

Angela & Phil, I’m so excited for your wedding in two weeks!

Wedding Day Tip: Stick Together at the Reception

After your wedding ceremony and after all the formalities are over and done… what you and your new husband really want to do is enjoy the party… to mix and mingle with all of your friends and loved ones who have come to celebrate your day. Of course you want to spend some time with all of your guests, and so more often than not, you and your new spouse will get pulled off in two entirely separate directions.

Maybe you are on one side of the room talking to your sorority sisters, your coworkers, your Aunt and Uncle who flew 12 hours to be there with you… On the other side of the room, maybe your groom is talking to his weekly basketball league friends, his poker buddies, and then his Godparents. You want to make everyone feel welcome, I understand!

New strategy: STICK TOGETHER! Try and greet all of your guests – even the ones who you don’t personally know – together. Your wedding day will fly by literally in a blink of an eye, and you will regret it if half of your time is spent on opposite sides of the room, too busy trying to catch up with your guests, rather than truly sharing your wedding day together.

Second strategy: Visit guest tables during dinner, after you’ve eaten (since the bride and groom are almost always served first!). Especially be sure to hit up the “older adult” tables of relatives, friends of your parents, etc., and try and spend a minute or two with all of them. As for your friends, you will see them on the dance floor (or at the bar!).
