How to Incorporate Chicago into your Wedding Day!

I think we can all agree that Chicago is simply amazing. Are you looking for ways to incorporate more of the Windy City into your wedding day?  Look no further!
Chicago themed wedding invitations are SO cute and add a level of anticipation for your guests, especially if many of them are coming from out of town!

Traffic in town can be terrible (not to mention parking a nightmare). Hire an old-fashioned trolley to transport your bridal party and guests from the ceremony to the reception.

We have one of the best skylines  in the world (if not the best!), so why not incorporate it into the design of the day? Use it on everything from your invitations, to ceremony programs, menus, or even a custom gobo on the dance floor or wall!

Instead of traditional table numbers, you can name your tables after your favorite Chicago attractions. Use complimentary postcards or landmark photos to serve as table markers.

With upscale restaurants such as Alinea, Tru, and Graham Elliot, we have a lock on innovative food. But don’t overlook our traditional offerings! Host your rehearsal dinner somewhere like Gino’s East for some Chicago style deep dish… or surprise your guests at the end of your reception with a Chicago-style hot dog cart. (Just remember to skip the ketchup!)

Who doesn’t love Garrett’s popcorn?!?! These mini bags of The Chicago Mix are perfect for favors!

Or how about commemorating your wedding date and city with a unique poster from Alexander & Co, which you can customize with your names, date, wedding venue, colors, fonts, and even hair color (if your chosen print features people)! Super cool and vintage… I want one too! They can even be used as guests books by adding a mat frame for your guests to sign (so they don’t ruin this beautiful art!)

A word to the wise… a few Chicago-themed touches are sweet, but trying to incorporate all of them would be overkill! Pick your absolute faves for maximum impact. Have fun!

How to Incorporate Fall Into Your Wedding

Now that our wedding season is winding down, it’s time to get to our regular scheduled blogging!

Fall is a favorite of ours here at Sweetchic – mostly because it comes with it’s own warm and cozy ambiance, but with cool crisp days. That’s basically the recipe for a perfect wedding day, don’t you think? Here in Chicago, it’s already starting to feel like winter, but we like to think that we still officially have 2 months of fall!

We love the idea of bringing the fall ambiance into your wedding. Now, we aren’t talking fall overload – leaves galore with a brown and orange color palette, but more subtle, chic, hints throughout your day.

Escort Cards

Orange pumpkins a little to Halloween-y for you? These gorgeous white pumpkins as escort cards are very elegant!

Okay, so we can’t promise you no leaves. But these escort cards are so delicate and cute that we couldn’t resist. Now, I wouldn’t recommend scrounging your backyard for the perfect leaf — but craft store bought leaves will do just fine!

Well it is harvest season….
Try incorporating flowering purple kale, apples, or artichokes into your centerpieces for a unique twist.

Jewel Tones
When we think fall we think dark, rich jewel tones such as burgundy, Merlot, and purple.

Signature Drinks
Create a special drink for your wedding that when your guests take a sip they say “Mmm…tastes like fall.”
Anything with bourbon, cinnamon, or apple cider is sure to be loved!

Treats & Favors
We all know that when fall arrives, all the delicious comfort foods come with it…

Set-up a mini-pie buffet (with all the fall flavors of course!) for you guests instead of cake or as a favor!

Deliciously Fun Wedding Cake Alternatives

It used to be that a wedding was not complete without a gorgeous, multi-tiered wedding cake. This is definitely not the case anymore! And while cupcakes were the hot trend for the last few years (and still going strong), couples these days are getting more creative with dessert.

More often than not, the traditional wedding cake is taking a back-seat, or at least getting smaller to make room for a multitude of other desserts (the more desserts the better, right?!). Check out these fun and delicious ideas…

You might want to embrace the modern “dessert table” trend with a selection of ALL different types of goodies! You may even choose to add a traditional wedding cake to the table too!

For those with a slightly more rustic-themed wedding, a pie bar would fit the bill.

One of my favorite ideas is to serve multiple mini-cakes that pull double duty as table centerpieces!

Guests can have a creative dessert making experience through an interactive smore’s bar. And its not just s’mores! The options for interactive dessert bars are endless (popcorn, frozen yogurt, hot chocolate….)

Are you having a wedding cake, or are you opting for something completely different? If you’re already married, would you try this new trend?
